Greek Cyprus is an independent country. It isn't Greece's to sell. Maybe the commenter meant Crete or Corfu or something.

Greece's problems are from too little money; it's too much spending. No selling of islands nor loans from rich uncles is going to fix that.

insofar as Cyprus is an independent country, I think that the idea of selling another country with whom we share linguistic and ethnic ties to pay off our own debts is lovely. my own country, portugal, could sell brazil, pay everything, make a profit, and even maybe lend to greece enough money to bail them out.
