Crisis fun

1. Stupidest part of the rescue package that I'm aware of:

Portugal is still slotted to loan money to Greece at a rate very far below its own borrowing costs!

2. Best proposed solution to the Greek crisis I've seen (from the comments on a Yahoo! news story on the crisis):

"Greece: sell Cyprus to the Turks. There, two problems solved! "

  1. A Bavarian politician had an almost similar suggestion: sell some Greek isles

  2. Greek Cyprus is an independent country. It isn't Greece's to sell. Maybe the commenter meant Crete or Corfu or something.

  4. So, Anonymous, if 2000 years was not enough, when will you and your compatriots learn to live within their means and work once in a while?

  5. "I would say fcuk you regarding your proposal to sell Cyprus to Turks ..."

That's fine. I would, in turn, say f#$! you in response to Greece's bailout request.

  6. Greece's problems are from too little money; it's too much spending. No selling of islands nor loans from rich uncles is going to fix that.

  7. greeks do not pay taxes - by not declaring their incomes - to the greek state.
    the should begin.

  8. insofar as Cyprus is an independent country, I think that the idea of selling another country with whom we share linguistic and ethnic ties to pay off our own debts is lovely. my own country, portugal, could sell brazil, pay everything, make a profit, and even maybe lend to greece enough money to bail them out.

    good grief.

  9. As for surrealist ideas, why not give away Bouvet Island to the Greeks instead, have them melt it down into bottled water and exported to Europe.
