Japanese Light Trucks: Not What You Think...

Japanese light trucks? You mean like a Nissan 4 cylinder? Not for those wacky, wacky sons of Nippon.
(Please click for an even more deranged image)

Nod to Jackie Blue. No, you cannot "borrow" $125k to trick up your 1997 Subaru Forester with a "Scary Clown!" theme. It wouldn't be the same, anyway.

So Sweet

Daddy eagle, being an idiot, manages to give little junior a ride, and then leaves him over by the edge of the nest. (If you look past the nest, you'll see this is WAY up in the air).

But mommy eagle scoops the little guy back into the egg cup. Sweet.

(Nod to D. Paletz)

Roscoe!!

Is there anything cuter than a baby orangutan?

Does anyone know where this was filmed? The house in the beginning looks very American.

The biggest pair of beer goggles ever

The highlight of our trip was provided by a 40 foot female humpback whale who apparently fell in love with a 25 foot boat.

Really!

We were in the other boat, when we got an excited radio call to come join the first one because something amazing was happening. We scooted over and saw a whale near the surface and very close to the first boat.

The boss man, Gene Flipse, called us into the water. After getting a look at the situation, I flippered over and asked Gene what was up.

He very matter of factly replied "The female is ready to mate and she's taken quite a shine to our boat".

She just kept circling and circling the boats (by this time we'd tied them together), or passing underneath them. Sometimes right side up, sometimes, upside down. This lasted for about 90 minutes.

The whole time, there was a very interested male whale waiting patiently for our girl to come to her senses, and they finally did leave together.

Here are a couple shots from that experience:

He's just not that into you

Danny G is taking this whole LeBron breakup thing pretty hard:

"The Cleveland Cavaliers have poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into a high-powered Midwestern law firm to investigate their suspicions that the Miami Heat broke NBA tampering rules while pursuing LeBron James, and owner Dan Gilbert has privately vowed he won’t relent until he has a thick binder of findings to drop on the desk of the NBA commissioner, league sources told Yahoo! Sports."

Man, I know break-ups are tough, but this is nuts. Hiring a private dick to try and piece together whether your ex started cheating on you before the divorce? Does he think he'll get LeBron back?

I guess he just wants LeBron's new love to be hurting too. He should just sneak up on Pat Riley and sucker-punch him!

I need some Horsepower!

Saturday at MOMA with the hordes. Van Gogh's Starry Night playing the role of the Mona Lisa (i.e. people lined up 12 deep surrounding it). Luckily most of the special exhibits were relatively open. There was one that I didn't even want to look at called "Designed for the Stage", drawings by artists for operas, plays, etc. But there I found gold!

Diego Rivera took a commission to do a set design for a play called Horsepower in the early 1930s.

Really!!

Here is a drawing, which is now my favorite piece by Rivera ever.

Thank you hordes for driving me out of the main galleries and into the nooks and crannies of MOMA!!

She (and he) wore blue velvet

The Pantanal is great for birds too. I guess about the prettiest we saw were the Hyacinth Macaws:

Mrs. Angus took this shot on land near Porto Joffre (as always, click the photo to enlarge). They are supposedly the biggest flying parrots in the world. These two were in love and working on their nest.
