Iowa: The Caucuses Mountains

I was on the Takeaway yesterday, with my pal Celeste Headley. She shamelessly promotes the (admittedly miraculous) fact that the D-Lions are in the playoffs.

And we also talk about Iowa. Click and play, if you want. It's about 7 mins.

The Takeaway

In which I try to get happy about the increased employment in the 16-24 age group.

I tried, I really did. It was on The Takeaway.

Takeaway

Unemployment benefits expiring? Please.

Wake me up when three things happen:

1. Social security/medicare/entitlement reform. Raise ages, means test, raise maximum payroll before taxes go to zero.

2. Cut DOD and other defense related spending by at least 15%. More is better, but no less.

3. Reform taxes along lines suggested by Bowles-Simpson budget commission proposal.

Everything else is bullshit. And I got to say so on the Takeaway this morn. (7 am is early for a radio show...ugh)

The Takeaway: It's 1936 Again in America

Got to talk with my BFFs John and Celeste at "The Takeaway" this morning. Meant I had to get up at 5 am to think about what I was going to say, but always fun to do that show. Here is the archive version....

Two thoughts on this problem:

1. One by Bruce Bartlett. I don't always agree with Bruce, but he makes some good points here. Bruce is always worth reading... (Lagniappe: Bruce B also wonders about my pal Tino Sanandaji, an interesting Iranian-Swedish grad student at UC's Harris School)

2. Another by Lawrence Reed. It was written in 1998, but it's truly prophetic, unfortunately.
