A Restraining Order From Wal-Mart
A fun little urban-legendy RO from Wal-Mart
Dear Mrs. Denner,
Over the past six months, your
husband has been causing quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate
this behaviour and may be forced to ban both of you from the store. Our
complaints against Mr. Denner are listed below and are documented by our video
surveillance cameras.
June 15: Took 24 boxes of condoms
and randomly put them in people's carts when they weren't looking.
July 2: Set all the alarm clocks
in House-wares to go off at 5-minute intervals

Ultimate Thinspos: Auschwitz
An Estonian newspaper ran an ad for diet pills, accompanied by a photo of Holocaust victims. Here is the AP story
Money quote: "Sulev Vedler, deputy editor of Eesti Ekspress, says the mock ad, which ran in the paper's humor section, was poking fun at an Estonian gas company that recently used an image of Auschwitz to promote its services."
The Israeli newspaper Haretz ran the story, and ran the picture (in Hebrew), which US papers have been (not too surprisingly) unwilling to do. Here at KPC, of course, we are rarely unwilling.

Lagniappe: Don't know "thinspo"? Let me google that for you...
With a nod to Emek B.

Wake Up! It's a Truck!
Would I have done this? Yes.
Would the repurcussions have been worse. Yes.
Would it have been worth it? YES.
A
Amusingly, this was done I-40, just west of the RDU airport. So it would work pretty well, only a few miles away. And the LMM always sleeps in the car...

Baptist Wedding
Actually, not sure they are Baptists. But they take their step for full immersion. You can be pretty sure it's going to happen. Both the men and women are mostly pretty hefty. Not that that's a bad thing.
One embarrassing touch: The bride has on (unsurprisingly) a full-length, very full, very heavy gown. The bridesmaids have on heavy dresses, but they are just below the knee. And the men just have on tuxes. Well, play it again. Notice that the groom totally bails out on the bride, and just leaves her. One of the other women helps the bride. THAT may come up a few times, when they show the video. "You left me to drown!" And the problem is, the guy DID. Wedding fail.

Stand-up Economist: NSFW
This is NSFW, and it's also pretty insidery. But I laughed.

Italian Spelling Bee
This video is just in time. What a life-saver. Thanks to the LMM.
The Italian-American spelling bee.
The reason this is helpful is that for dinner here in Chile on Sunday, I ate with the family of Juan Pablo. I tried to explain to them how the American Italians I knew all called eggplant, "Moolen-john," which is nothing like the Italian word, "Me-lahn-zahn-ay," which is the ACTUAL Italian word for eggplant (melanzane). Here is an Italian pronouncing the word. It has four syllables, and sounds NOTHING like "Moolen-john."
JP's family would not believe me. All the Italians they knew were from Italy, and said "Me-lahn-zahn-ay."
But, now, I have video proof. Frankie Orlando, this is for you.

I'd tell you about it, but the name is pretty descriptive.

Warning: Contains Graphic Content
After this quite delightful little kerfuffle, Zach Wiener was kind enough to send me the original of this cartoon. Interesting Rorschach test: we learn something about YOU, from who you think is being mocked. This issue discussed at greater length here. (Hint: Zach always mocks everyone, including himself. He is not really a fan of false certitude, or ideologies. Check the crest here...)
Anyway, I got this for Christmas:
In the place of honor, right over the throne, so that men are obliged to stare it, and women will have plenty of time to look at it, too, while they are doing whatever it is that they do that takes 45 minutes in there. (Not very high quality, it's a cellphone pic, so if you want the original comic it's here...)

Student Brings Typewriter to Class
The Ward Boss sends this little gem. Student brings typewriter to class to take notes.
Ya gotta love the little "ding" when he puts it away.
Where did the kid FIND a non-electric typewriter? Impressive.

hard to know if it's "real," but it's pretty funny.
Premise is that owner put up camera when away. Maybe...

Marriage Proposal
Note the size of the rock on the ring at the end. The LMM's reaction: "If you had given me a ring like that, you could jumped off the roof, too."
