Fortunately our sovereign is gracious enough to ignore transatlantic sneers and has ennobled several of Bernanke's compatriots. Alan Greenspan is an honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire while George H. W. Bush is an honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath. Other existing or former honorary knights include Bill Gates, Rudolph Giuliani, Edward Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and J. Edgar Hoover.
