7,000 extra page views per day, 4 days?

Anybody have any idea what could have caused this?  We got 7k+ extra page views per day, for four days, and then it stopped.

Extremely lame denial of service attack?  Bots looking for emails to harvest?  Some readers with extremely short attention spans?

Angus and I have no clue.  Very odd.  Never seen anything like it.

Sitemeter has been malfunctioning for the last week or two for me: not showing visits I know happened, erasing visits at various times during the day, etc. I saw something about this on Outside the Beltway a few days ago. I assume the service is having problems.

Does sitemeter say which pages they were entering and exiting on? Was it the same for most of the hits or random?

Check the referral link on the left nav. Where does it say the clicks were coming from? Krugman's blog? ;-)

Looks like a Gaussian distribution, which means you should move along, nothing to see here...
