Performance Art Saga

A retrospective, on the three Performance Art posts:

1. Grocery

2. Starbucks

3. Hinky Lube

Now, one of my loyal readers had this observation:

do you get off on getting people fired?

are you an elitist pig or something?

you work like four hours a day teaching one class...

how hard can that be?

Answers:
Yes, if they suck.
Obviously, if by elitist you mean "believes in merit-based discrimination."
It's summer; I don't teach at all. I write things. Just finished a couple of papers, and am now working on revising one of my books with Mel Hinich.
Not very hard; thanks for asking.

More seriously: Professors, for the most part, are not primarily teachers. We are writers and researchers. I voluntarily teach a double overload most semesters. Because I like to teach. But the "work" that we do is by and large our research work. I love that. It is fun, and interesting, and I learn things. And, of course, it leaves lots of time where I can haul my big elitist butt out into the public and get idiots fired from jobs they can't do.

Has anyone actually learned anything from your work or do you just write to amuse yourself? Name three contributions political science research has made to the world in the past 10 years. The Starbucks kid making coffee is much more important to people's everyday lives

Gee, I never realized how many bitter ex-grad students are out there.

Although I agree that the person accross the street at Starbucks is much more important to my daily life than any poli sci prof (sorry mm), I think the point is who does there "job" better, or at least competently.

Last week a new "independent" coffee shop opened. I was "shamed" into going due to group dynamics. It took over 20 minutes, and we were the only people in the store. Futhermore, none of the orders were right but we took them just to get out of there.

Point? Whether you're a "barista" or prof., if you can't perform its not someone else's fault. (Unless your a grad student who has to teach during the summer, then you're a sucker and its your own). Just kidding- almost.

anonymous #1: you are a dope. a cursory check of the social science citation index online indicates that our boy Killer G has well over 500 scholarly citations to his work. His most cited piece (over 150 cites to it alone) shows how legislators would rationally allocate their time between fundraising and direct constituent service and helps to explain the interest group contribution patterns we see in the data.

don't be hatin', Grease is a playa!

Killer! The individual that posted those glowing remarking about you had to be a elitist State Liberal pig himself since he knew about the 4 hours a day teaching work load. Don't you just hate these local turft wars among Profs. I willing to wager that it was a buddy of Chief Churchhill or whatever new age Indian name he has at Starbucks.

No, no...guy is probably a right wing insurance agent that reads alot of David Horowitz. A bitter ex-grad student or lefty in academia usually complain about the 4 hours they have to teach. After all, they're above teaching the masses. Kgrease is not!

You're right! The elite insurance Agent is the same Guy that wrote the policy for Slick Willie in the Paula Jones Case to cover Slick's lawyer's fees and most likely the Agent that wrote the Policy for Dale Earhart where he didn't tell the Insurance provider about the 3 million death benfits on Number 3. One thing about Killer, he is a man of the people and the masses. How many people would take on the Horny Lube mega corporation in their own drive in bay and get the redneck good ole boy can over a vast misunderstanding on a 10 buck discount coupon, who reads alot of David Horowitz and the art of Pie tossing. Power to Killer!!!!

"you work like four hours a day teaching one class..."

4 hours! Damn, that is one long lecture! Do you really do that? I have not known any Poli Sci Profs to do a 4 hour lecture since Thad Brown was running large at Missouri.

" since Thad Brown was running large at Missouri."

Are you are talking about the Thad Brown the infamous All American running back with the Missouri Tigers who failed poly sci because he had falling asleep during the 4 1/2 hour lecture by the Prof on why they didn't have any White tight ends on the Union side during the "war of northern aggression." Poor Thad, he got screw out of his final Rose Bowl chance and was drafted number 345 in the NFL and force to serve in Iraq to complete his ROTC commitment. I wager Killer would have toss cold water in Thad face to kept him awake during his lectures to prevent a good boy losing his chance in life... Now that is true libertarian humanity!

Thad Brown as a running back...now that is an entertaining image.

No, Brown was the prof that gave those monster lectures.

Wow anon! So Thad was a wanntobe monster NFL lineback with lots of Red Dog quotes to get him over the line of boring and more boring zzzzzzzzzzzz lectures like practicing Blizs 990 times a day. Usually, this practice of long blizs in class can bring brain dead cells back that cannot absorb the licks of education or expand the attention span of a tight end. I believe Killer always knows when to stop and get game ready for the Libs.
