Not quite; if you run the ngram for beef vs. chicken, you see that the US went to hell in 1965. The British stayed true to the Light Side up to roughly 1985, which sort of brings the turning point up 10 years for the Anglosphere as a whole.
If you run the ngram for beef vs. chicken for American English books, I meant.
