Hubris on full parade. We can't even control our own cholesterol.
The social sciences taught in our universities must now be classed as "pre-Anthropocene". The process of reinventing them — so that what is taught in our arts faculties is true to what has emerged in our science faculties — will be a sustained and arduous intellectual enterprise.
Sounds like a guy trying to justify keeping social science professor jobs intact as the college industrial complex breaks down. (A long time ago during a PhD program my experience was that anyone who had "ethics" as part of their job title was usually full of shit. YMMV)
