Cliff Tucker tries to inbound the ball. But C-Crazies put that bad hoodoo on him.
The YYM is circled. Exciting. Duke uses non-price rationing to allocate game tickets. They are all "free" to students, but you have to wait in line. Maryland game usually a tough ticket to get, since U of Maryland is basically an urban pentitentiary with chalkboards and we HATES them. But this game was on January 9th before classes started and the YYM only had to wait about six hours in line to get into a position where he could fling that hoodoo.

Hey! I'm a UMD grad student and I resent ... oh who am I kidding?
I definitely don't care about Maryland basketball, and "urban penitentiary" is only wrong because it's pretty firmly in the suburbs.
But this game was on January 9th before classes started
And that's the difference between UMd and Carolina when it comes to Duke. When I went to Duke, students from in state started camping out before classes started to get into the Carolina game in late January or early February.
Wait a minute. I thought you hated Duke basketball. Did you change your mind, or do you just hate Maryland more???
These are three first rate comments.
Anon 1: UMD is actually a first rate university. They have some departments that I envy. But the BASKETBALL team, in terms of graduation rates (low) and conviction rates (high) is not very admirable.
John Thacker: Locals are in fact already camping out for the UNC game, which is weeks away. And some kids flew back three days early. So that tradition is still strong.
Anon II: Bingo. I don't hate Duke basketball, I just have trouble rooting FOR Duke. But I would root AGAINST Maryland no matter who was playing them. Probably just pathetic sour grapes, since I interviewed at UMD once and didn't get an offer. But then I have interviewed at LOTS of places and failed to get offers. But I don't hate U-Dub, U-Minn, NC State, Ohio State, GMasonU, GWashingtonU, WashU, TAMU, U-GA, Emory, U-FL, U-KY, UVA (I could go on, all places where I interviewed and didn't get an offer). It's only UMD that burns my big ol' butt.
Excellent news, Munger. Just shows that one team is our rival, and the other isn't.
Clearly right, JT, my own perverse views notwithstanding. You speak for the great mass of common folk, as always! MM
Such a great article which Duke uses non-price rationing to allocate game tickets. They are all "free" to students, but you have to wait in line. What fascinating games which most students. Thanks a lot for posting
