Everybody's got something to hide (except Idaho)

Here's a fun map showing one bad thing that every state is best at (clic the pic for a more glorious image):

except of course Idaho's badge of shame, "weakest government influence", sounds like a badge of honor to me!

North Carolina's badge of honor is related to banning collective bargaining by state employees.

Tennessee, corruption? What, because they already had other ideas for Ilinois, New Jersey, and Louisiana?

I must disagree; my home state of Washington is the best at bestiality.

I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

So is Utah being the "worst" at porn usage mean they look at the most porn or the least porn?

I could really see it going either way...(lotta pent up frustration in that state, I'm sure)

Utah also has the highest per-capital sales of boxed wine. Two theories on this:
1) When you take the garbage out on Monday morning, your neighbors don't hear wine bottles clanking together -- no need to explain yourself.
2) If you need to store one year's worth of food supplies in your bomb shelter, boxes stack easier than bottles.

So the teacher have the lowest salaries... because they are unionized? Kinda flies in the face of all this anti-union sentiment I've been hearing from conservatives.

Of course, I don't buy that they actually have the lowest salaries, given the state's size and rate of urbanization. Indeed, a quick search reveals that this is not the case, and that NC teacher salaries are pretty average, and pretty close to the median income for the state itself. The map fails.

@ Steve

They mean the most usage of online porn per person. I remember seeing a news article about this discovery last year, though I'm not sure what the methodology was.

Reading comprehension fail there, Anonymous.

They're unionized, but, as I said in my comment, North Carolina bans collective bargaining by all state employees, even teachers. They can be in a union, but they can't collectively bargain for wages.

It completely confirms all that anti-union sentiment, just as your lack of reading comprehension confirms prejudices about leftists.

Except that the facts of the situation are wrong. They don't have the lowest salaries in NC. In fact, salaries are comparable to (and in fact, higher than) neighboring Tennessee, which does have collective bargaining for teacher salaries.

Should this confirm prejudices about rightists and how they don't give a fuck about actual facts?

And hey, just for fun:

State with the lowest average teacher pay: South Dakota. And its not even close.

And in the Great Rapey State of South Dakota, all public employees are permitted to bargain collectively.

Get a better map.

Source on the North Carolina teacher pay claim, for the benefit of above profane Anon:

Didn't check to see if benefits are included in the compensation comparisons. The methodology is certainly up for debate in other areas as well.
