Is the CIA giving Latin American leftists cancer?

Hugo Chavez says that he wouldn't doubt it one little bit.

He says he got the notion from Fidel:

"Fidel always told me, 'Chavez take care. These people have developed technology. You are very careless. Take care what you eat, what they give you to eat ... a little needle and they inject you with I don't know what,'"

It's easy to laugh at this but we actually did try to kill Castro, didn't we? And we helped kill Allende in Chile. And there was Guatemala in 1954, and the Contras in Nicaragua, and "Operation Fury" in Grenada. People, we occupied Haiti from 1915 to 1934.

Hell we stole Panama from Colombia and huge chunks of Mexico too in the Mexican American War.

Basically the US has been a huge bully / PITA/ jerk to Latin America, at least since 1846.

It's not that hard to see where Hugo is coming from.

conquer or be conquered, kill or be killed, to the victor go the spoils... hey Hugo, AMF.

Exactly why is Grenada in the same category? Grenada had a non-aligned moderate socialist government (no ally to the United States) which was overthrown by a military/ hardline Marxist coup that put the island under martial law.

Operation Fury resulted in a democratic government and the first elections since 1976.

I don't understand the complaints about it.

I love how Hugo is too dense to realize that Fidel was chiding him about his weight.

Looking at Haiti today trying to govern itself, it kinda seems like occupation by a foreign power wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Likewise, Pinochet was no Thomas Jefferson, but Chile would probably like Argentina does today if Allende had remained in power. Maybe the ends don't justify the means, but I'm still not sure I'd put supporting a coup against a socialist government in the category of "huge bully" behavior on our part.
