4.  UNC-CH decides to go along with idiotic "Dear Colleague" thugs.  The threat is that the feds will sue or hold up money if schools don't go along with the "new policy."  But the new policy makes criminal charges follow from the civil standard of evidence, "preponderance of evidence."  Here is why that is a bad idea.

So, if you have he-said, she-said, you're already at 50/50, right? (Maybe not in a court room, but from an untrained person's perspective.)

So, even the slightest possibility that he did it beyond just the accusation meets the preponderance of evidence standard, doesn't it? In other words, all you need to do to get your ex boyfriend expelled is to accuse him of raping you and being seen with him at a party.

Hasdrubal: that's the way I read it. Not good.

I understand how hard it is to report a rape, and I understand how hard it is to be the victim and yet be put on trial.

But we can't just criminalize dating disagreements and break-ups.

Who in their right mind would accept that Hamermesh's beauty stuff is anything close to causal?

I can't understand why economists turn off their brains on this sort of stuff.
