A Prize we can believe in

Does this make it easier or harder for BHO to put more "boots on the ground" in Afghanistan?

What I like the best about the story is that President O had only been in office for TWO WEEKS when the nomination deadline for the Peace Prize arrived.

I also like Lech Walesa's take on the subject:

"So soon? Too early. He has no contribution so far. He is still at an early stage. He is only beginning to act," said former Polish President Lech Walesa, a 1983 Nobel Peace laureate.

"This is probably an encouragement for him to act. Let's see if he perseveres. Let's give him time to act," Walesa said.

and by act he means???

Well as the article soberly informs us:

Still, the U.S. remains at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. Congress has yet to pass a law reducing carbon emissions and there has been little significant reduction in global nuclear stockpiles since Obama took office.

Wow, who knew Norwegians were so darn wily??

Of course, the voting/decision deadline is well after the nomination deadline, so the decisionmakers were able to take a lot more than two weeks worth of activities into consideration.

for the humor impaired (and this means you DD), the point is that someone had the *stones* to nominate him after only two weeks in office.

The Norwegians do the Peace Prize. The Swedes do all of the others. So: Norwegians = wily. Swedes = [?]

LOL, the Norwegian are double wily then. Getting a nobel out from under the noses of the Swedes and then giving it "on the come" as they say. Thanks and I'll correct the error in the blog text.

I wouldn't celebrate the wiliness too soon. Did awarding Arafat the prize put an end to his mischief? (I think not but I don't keep up with events in that part of the world very well.)

Plenty of War mongers have won the peace price: Teddy R, Kissinger, Wilson. I just didn't think he had mongered enough to take home the prize. I guess the threat to bomb Pakistan combined with escalation of the war in Afghanistan put him over the hump.

Whoa now boys, let's not forget so easily the awesome initiative taken by Mr. Barack Obama toward facilitating peace between Messrs. Gates and Crowley earlier this year. For that single act, if nothing else, BHO ought to be given the Nobel Prize.

(P.S.: Didn't know that the Norwegians and not the Swedes did this one. Thanks for pointing that out.)
