Are you guys old enough to remember Proxmire's "Golden Fleece" award? According to www.taxpayer.net, the February 1978 winner was NASA "for proposing to spend $14 to $25 billion over the next seven years to try to find intelligent life in outer space."

Krugman had a sense of humor back then.
